INSTRUCTIONS

Wash silk to remove sizing in a mild soap. No fabric softeners, or woolite

Stretch silk on streching board that is at least 1" larger all the way around that the silk blank

To stretch, pin on a corner of the silk as close to the hem as possible then go straight across to the next corner. Alway pin straight across not at a diagonal. Stretch silk tight and pin all four corners.

Always pin in straight lines. The pins MUST be straight up and down. If they bend inward you will loose the tension you need to keep the silk tight. Leave the forth side open to insert the pattern. (I put a few pins in while I am streching the silk and then take them back out)

Slip pattern under silk and position . Trace with water soluable pencil (NOT PEN)

Remove pattern and finish pinning silk to board

Raise silk to top ot the pins. The silk cannot be touching the board when the resist is applied.

The metal tip of the applicator bottle must be touching and pressed down on the silk in order to force the resist into the fabric.. Do not press down so hard as to touch the board, it will cause the resist to spread.

BE SURE TO CLOSE ALL LINES COMPLETELY. When starting and stopping overlap lines to avoid gates. If there is a gate the dyes will flow into each other.

Be careful not to drag your hand in the resist. The resist cannot be removed until washed and the dye will not take where there is resist.

SIGN YOUR NAME WITH THE RESIST and it will appear white when the scarf is washed. Let the resist dry before you begin to paint.
