"Limitless
Sports"
|
Limitless Sports is organized for the benefit of
handicapped children. Through Limitless Sports handicapped children are able to
participate in tennis, basketball, swimming and many other sports from which they would
otherwise be excluded. Last year, they asked local artists to paint benches, which were
auctioned at a silent auction. The silent auction helps cover the cost of wheelchairs
needed. In order for the children to participate in the auction this year, they asked the
Palmetto Painters to help.
On Saturday, August 19, 2000, Palmetto Painters "Limitless Sports Artists
Coaches" (Tweedy Rauch, Brenda Gray, Ingrid Hartman, Dot Johnson, and Martina Sekula)
met with eight "Limitless Sports Artists" to help them paint a bench that will
be included in the Limitless Sports auction in October. The children ranged from 5
to 15 years old. It started a little slow, but they soon began to relax with the painting
and to enjoy themselves. Every child painted some on the bench, and every child completed
a placemat to take home. As you can see, they did a wonderful job on the bench! Each child
signed the bottom of it and added their age. Each placemat was unique -- the children
created their own designs with stencils. These artists knew what colors they wanted and
presented some challenges to the "Coaches" with the mixing.
It was a very rewarding day for the "Coaches." And all the
"Artists" seemed to enjoy themselves -- they were really impressed with their
creations, and justly so!
Thank you, Nicholas Rich (8 1/2), Nathaniel Rich (14), Wintrel Ward
(14), Olga Agafonorz (15), Katherine Filaseta (9 1/2), Elizabeth Filaseta (7), Lamonte
Hammond (5), and Shardae Ward (10), for allowing the Palmetto Painters to share
this experience with you!!
